Aptitude for entropy and creation spells, pursued healing.
The de Revins, minor Orlesian nobility, bribed their way into hosting a mage healer for the then-Baroness' lingering health issues. Isaac was sent & stayed several years until being arrested for suspected poisoning. The de Revins were gracious enough to hand him back to the Chantry instead of hanging him.
…So he was transferred to Ghislain. Pledged Loyalist, no subsequent disciplinary record, but does show up in a few other people’s for tattling on them.
Within the Inquisition, he spent two years in the Western Approach before transferring to Kirkwall. He participated in the mage strike, and did not return his phylactery to the Chantry.

Got kind of a rep for ratting people out in Ghislain.
Rumour has it he sold out some fellow Loyalists when the Rebellion happened.
May have literally burned a bridge during the Mage/Templar war.

His family, the O'Kellars, were Fereldens who collaborated with the Orlesian Invasion and fled across the border after Orlais got kicked out. But also they haven't had contact in 30+ years and I'm p sure they're all dead. But it's out there!! If you ever have a reason to use it.
